Start small. Give your agent a clear first task.

Choose a focused task, prepare the environment, and build a repeatable workflow before adding more agents.

A useful first agent doesn’t need a complicated assignment. Give it a small project, the right tools, and a result you can check.

Start with one clear task

Choose something specific: inspect a repository, run its tests, or make a small change in a dedicated branch. Decide what success looks like before you submit the command.

Prepare the environment once

Choose your coding tool and add its provider credentials as environment variables. If your project needs additional dependencies, put them in a custom install script.

Workspace defaults help keep that setup consistent when you create another agent. Each agent can still have its own configuration.

Bring the project along

Connect a GitHub repository during creation so the code is available when startup completes. Scope your GitHub token to the repository and permissions the task needs.

Follow the result

Open the agent’s terminal to submit commands and review their output. Start with a quick check of the project files and installed tools before asking the agent to make changes.

Once the workflow works well, you can use it as the starting point for other tasks. Keep each assignment focused and review the results as you go.
